The Department of Pharmacy Technology of Medicines was created simultaneously with the foundation of the Kharkiv Pharmaceutical Institute in 1921. The department changed its name several times: department of pharmaceutical practice (1921), pharmaceutical formulation (1922), technology of dosage forms and galenic preparations (1930), pharmacy technology of drugs (1976), pharmacy technology of drugs named after D. P. Sala (2010).

Areas of scientific research of the department in different years:

Analysis of medicinal products, study of the qualitative composition of salt solutions of mountains and mines in the city of Slovyansk, development of salt purification methods at saltworks, research of plant raw materials: buckthorn, periwinkle, flax, mustard, mint, cocoa (M.P. Krasovsky) ;

Pharmacognostic research of medicinal plants, study of the properties of galenic drugs (S.G. Kovalev);

Study of the chemical composition of medicinal preparations, research of the properties of galenic preparations (Shubin S.F.);

Development and improvement of methods of drug production (Pivnenko G.P.);

Study and use of highly dispersed minerals of Ukraine in the technology of medicinal preparations for the treatment of ulcerative-necrotic lesions of the skin and radiation dermatitis (Salo D.P.);

Creation of medicines based on plant and natural raw materials, including beekeeping products, for adults and children; creation of homeopathic medicines (O.I. Tikhonov);

Development of the composition and technology of medicinal and medical and cosmetic products of extemporaneous and industrial production (Polovko N.P.);

Development of the composition and technology of new drugs of extemporaneous and industrial production based on plant substances (in particular, homeopathic ones) and validation of the technological process (Vyshnevska L.I.).

The staff of the department consists of scientists and teachers who carry out the technological direction of training specialists for the pharmaceutical industry of Ukraine.
